Catherine Sullivan-Sturgeon
Co-Artistic Director of CCBM
Catherine has a background in classical ballet and modern dance in both academic and professional settings. She has a B.A. degree in Art with an Art History emphasis and an M.A. in Dance/Art from CSU, Chico. She is a founder of Chico Creek Dance Centre and Chico Community Ballet, as well as a founder of its "Friends" organization.
A frequent City Arts Award nominee, she has received five "Annie" awards in both the visual and performing arts. Catherine received one of the first Mayor's Award for Art Achievement for her involvement in dance performance, choreography, teaching and visual arts exhibitions. She conceived and directed the original ballet productions The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland and Return to Wonderland for Chico Community Ballet.
In addition to teaching and directing, she is Curator of the Janet Turner Print Gallery, located in Laxson Auditorium. She is married to James Sturgeon and they have a family of no less than four cats. Catherine teaches the Apprentice Company of Chico Community Ballet.
